    Appearance & Physicochemical Properties

    1. Appearance: Reddish-brown to blackish-brown homogeneous powder

    2. Solubility:

    Freely soluble in cold and hot water, delivering yellowish-brown aqueous solution; 

    Slightly soluble in ethanol and ethylene glycol ethyl ether; insoluble in acetone, benzene and carbon tetrachloride

    3. Color Change Characteristics:

       - In concentrated sulfuric acid: Brown solution, turns reddish brown after dilution

       - In concentrated nitric acid: Initially orange, gradually turns yellow

       - No obvious shade change after adding hydrochloric acid to aqueous solution; orange precipitate precipitates with 10% sodium hydroxide solution

    4. Maximum Absorption Wavelength (λmax): 457 nm

    5. Melting Point: 220 °C (decomposes)

    6. Color Fastness Performance (Common Defect of Basic Dyes)

       - Light fastness: Grade 1 (poor resistance to sunlight)

       - Average soaping fastness and perspiration fastness; wet & dry rubbing fastness Grade 3–4

    Suitable only for lining fabrics and decorative materials, not applicable for outdoor garment fabrics

    Main Application Fields

    1. Paper Industry (Largest Consumption)

    Used for dyeing kraft paper, wrapping paper, crepe paper, mosquito-repellent incense paper and craft colored paper. It features fast dye uptake, good levelness, and can be blended to formulate deep brown and coffee base shades.


    2. Leather Dyeing

    Applied in dip dyeing and spray coloring for cowhide, sheepskin and artificial leather to produce brown base tone; also compounded with other dyes for vintage brown and coffee color matching.


    3. Textile Dyeing & Printing

    - Main cationic dye for acrylic fiber, also suitable for dyeing silk and wool

    - Requires tannin mordant for cotton fiber dyeing; mixable with basic red and basic yellow to compound black and miscellaneous shades


    4. Inks, Coatings & Stationery Lakes

    Stamp pad ink, carbon paper, wood stain, paint color lakes and crayon pigments.


    5. High-Purity Grade for Biological Staining

    Histological section staining reagent for mucin, chondrocyte and goblet cell staining, matching reagent for Papanicolaou staining system.

    1. Hazards: Harmful if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed via skin; irritant to eyes, respiratory tract and skin

    2. Storage & Transportation: Seal and store in cool, dry and ventilated warehouse, keep away from strong oxidants
