    Product Introduction

Basic black, also named cationic black, is a water-soluble cationic basic dye. Its molecule contains alkaline amino groups. After dissolving in water, it ionizes into positively charged dye cations, which bind to negatively charged substrates via electrostatic adsorption for coloration. Commercial basic black products are either single-component dyes or blends of basic blue, basic yellow and basic red to formulate pure black shade.

    Physical & Chemical Properties

    Appearance

Dark black / bluish-black fine powder

    Water Solubility

Highly soluble in cold and hot water, solubility range: 150~300 g/L, aqueous solution shows black color

    Optimal pH for Dyeing

Weakly acidic pH 4.5~6.0; color shade becomes lighter and dye uptake declines under alkaline conditions

    Fastness Performance

Extremely high tinctorial strength and fast dyeing speed; light fastness: Grade 4–6, moderate washing & soaping fastness (Grade 3–4). Wet fastness can be improved by applying cationic fixing agent; not resistant to chlorine bleaching.

    Frequently Asked Questions

QWhat is basic black (cationic black) dye?

Basic black, also known as cationic black, is a water-soluble cationic basic dye containing alkaline amino groups. In aqueous solutions, it ionizes into positively charged dye cations, which bind to negatively charged substrates via electrostatic adsorption for coloration.

QHow are commercial basic black products formulated?

Commercial basic black products are available either as single-component dyes or as blends of basic blue, basic yellow, and basic red to formulate a pure black shade.

QWhat is the solubility of basic black in water?

Basic black is highly soluble in both cold and hot water, with a solubility range of 150 to 300 g/L. Its aqueous solution displays a distinct black color.

QWhat is the optimal pH range for dyeing with basic black?

The optimal pH range for dyeing is weakly acidic, specifically between pH 4.5 and 6.0. Under alkaline conditions, the color shade becomes lighter and the dye uptake declines.

QHow is the fastness of basic black, and can it be improved?

It features high tinctorial strength and fast dyeing speed, with a light fastness of Grade 4–6 and moderate washing & soaping fastness of Grade 3–4. Wet fastness can be improved by applying a cationic fixing agent. However, it is not resistant to chlorine bleaching.
