    Introduction

Basic Orange 2 ( Chrysoidine G ) is a typical azo basic industrial dye. Due to its strong carcinogenicity, it is strictly prohibited from use in food and is mainly used for dyeing in the textile and leather industries.

    Physicochemical Properties

Basic Orange 2 has stable physicochemical properties, as detailed below:

    Solubility
Soluble in water (yellowish-orange), soluble in ethanol and cellosolve (ethylene glycol ether), slightly soluble in acetone, insoluble in benzene.
    Melting Point
    118-118.5℃.
    PH Indication Range
pH 4.0 (orange) to 7.0 (yellow).
    Chemical Instability
May react explosively when mixed with strong oxidizing agents, metal salts, peroxides, and sulfides.
    Legal Industrial Uses

As an industrial dye, its legal uses are mainly concentrated in areas where human safety requirements are not high:

Textiles Used for dyeing and printing on cotton, linen, silk, wool, and acrylic fabrics. However, its colorfastness is relatively poor, especially on silk and wool.
Non-textile materials Commonly used for coloring leather, paper, feathers, bamboo and wood products, straw products, etc., and also for manufacturing lakes.
Other industrial applications Also used in inks, detergents, rubber, hair dyes, etc.

Illegal food additive and health hazards

Despite being explicitly prohibited, due to its low cost, good dyeing effect, and resistance to fading, Basic Orange 2 has been illegally used by unscrupulous vendors in the past to color tofu skin, yellow croaker, chili products, and other foods, passing them off as high-quality products. This is a serious violation of food safety regulations. Its health hazards cannot be ignored:

Carcinogenicity Classified as a Group 3 carcinogen by the IARC in 2017, meaning "not yet classified as a carcinogen for humans."
Acute and chronic toxicity Excessive intake, inhalation, and skin contact can all cause acute and chronic poisoning.
Environmental hazards Extremely toxic to aquatic organisms, potentially causing long-term adverse effects on the aquatic environment; its waste must be treated as hazardous waste.
Therefore, purchase Basic Chrysoidine G only through official channels and strictly limit use to industrial applications. Follow the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) guidelines during operation and take appropriate personal protective measures.
