Basic Information

Direct Red 224, also known as Direct Scarlet F2G, Direct Fast Scarlet F2G, CAS No. 12222-48-9. It is a water-soluble disazo direct dye with uniform reddish-brown powder appearance, delivering bright yellowish scarlet shade on cotton and viscose fibers.

It dissolves readily in cold and hot water, featuring outstanding exhaustion and level dyeing performance, and reaches the highest affinity to cellulosic fibers at 90℃. It applies to dyeing & printing of cotton, viscose, silk, wool, polyamide, as well as one-bath high-temperature dyeing of polyester/cotton and polyester/viscose blends. It is also suitable for paper pulp coloring and water-based leather tinting.

Its light fastness is Grade 3–4, while wet rubbing and washing fastness are moderate. Cationic fixing agent is recommended for dark shades to improve wet fastness.

Physical Properties

● Solubility: Easily soluble in cold and hot water; its aqueous solution presents bright yellowish red color. It turns dark blue in concentrated sulfuric acid, and red-purple precipitate separates out after dilution; it becomes orange-brown in strong alkali.

● Dyeing Characteristics: Excellent exhaustion and level dyeing property, and it has the highest affinity for cellulosic fibers at 90℃.

Application Fields

1.Textile Industry

Suitable for dyeing and printing of cotton, viscose and rayon; applicable to one-bath dyeing of polyester/cotton and polyester/viscose blended fabrics, compatible with disperse dyes under high temperature of 130℃ without agglomeration. It can also be used for silk, vinylon, polyamide, wool and various blended fabrics, ideal for color matching of yellowish bright red and scarlet series.

2.Paper Industry

Internal dyeing of wood pulp and waste paper pulp, coloring of toilet paper and wrapping paper with good dye uptake rate.

3.Others: Water-based dyeing for leather, preparation of water-based color paste.

7. Key Dyeing Process Points

● Dye Bath pH: Better dye exhaustion effect under neutral to weakly acidic conditions

● Exhaustion Agent: High dye uptake can be achieved with a small amount of Glauber’s salt

● Disadvantage: Moderate wet processing fastness. Dark shade finished fabrics are recommended to be treated with cationic fixing agent to improve washing and rubbing fastness.
