Product Introduction
Basic Violet 3, also commonly known as Crystal Violet or Gentian Violet, is a classic triphenylmethane basic dye featuring brilliant coloring performance, unique chemical properties and a wide range of applications.
Appearance & Physicochemical Properties
1. Appearance: Dark green crystalline powder with metallic luster
2. Solubility: Soluble in water, ethanol and chloroform; its aqueous solution shows bright bluish-violet color; slightly soluble in ether
3. Color Changing Properties:
- In concentrated sulfuric acid: Orange-red color, turns green first then violet upon dilution
- Adding NaOH to aqueous solution: Reddish-brown precipitate forms
- pH indicator range: **0.5 (green) ~ 2.0 (bluish-violet)**, applied in non-aqueous titration
4. Melting Point: 205 °C (decomposes)
5. Fastness Deficiency: Light fastness only Grade 1–3, relatively low soaping fastness and perspiration fastness; not suitable for outdoor textile dyeing
Main Application Fields (Mainstream in Dye Industry)
1. Paper Industry (Largest Consumption Volume)
Used for dyeing copy paper, typing paper, crepe paper, handmade colored paper, mosquito-repellent incense paper and straw paper products. It features bright shade, good solubility and fast cationic dyeing uptake.
2. Leather Dyeing
Used for color matching via spraying or dip dyeing on artificial leather, sheepskin and cowhide to formulate purple and bluish-violet base shades.
3. Textile Dyeing & Printing
- Dyeing and color matching for acrylic fiber (preferred cationic dye), silk, wool, cotton and linen
